Strong, High-Quality Results

Despite being incredibly thin, each veneer is strong enough to withstand normal biting forces. With consistent oral hygiene and regular exams and cleanings, porcelain veneers can last up to 25 years.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer, also called a dental veneer, is an ultra-thin shell that a dentist can attach to the surface of a tooth in order to obscure cosmetic concerns like chips, cracks, or stains. Each shell is made from porcelain or similar materials that flawlessly resemble the appearance of a tooth. Because of their natural-looking results and the relative simplicity of the placement procedure, porcelain veneers have become one of the most popular treatment options in cosmetic dentistry.

Honestly, this place feels less like a dentist's office and more like a luxury spa. :) The office is beautiful. The staff is phenomenal. Everyone who works here is so professional, kind, and helpful. I actually love going to the dentist, but if you're one of those people who get anxiety about it, I think this place will forever change things for you! Highly recommend.

Going to the dentist is probably one of my least favorite things to do. The staff and Dr. Harris were extremely welcoming and made me feel extremely comfortable. They were empathetic and worked with me to formulate a realistic plan. Overall, I had a great experience!

Wondering what factors can affect your ability to receive porcelain veneers?

Ideal Dental Veneer Candidates Are in Good Oral Health

In general, the most important requirement affecting your ability to receive dental veneers is robust oral health. If you have major oral health issues, such as severe tooth decay or gum disease, other treatments will be necessary before you qualify for cosmetic dentistry. We can address virtually all of these concerns in our office. Other factors that affect candidacy for porcelain veneers include:

Sufficient Enamel

Before your dentist can place your porcelain veneers, they have to remove a certain amount of enamel from your tooth. If you have very worn or thin enamel, you may not qualify for this form of dentistry.

Free of Teeth Grinding

Clenching or grinding your teeth can damage restorations like veneers. An oral appliance or another treatment for these issues may allow you to still undergo treatment.

Minor Misalignment

While porcelain veneers can address gaps or other minor misalignments, severely crooked teeth may still require orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign.

Good Oral Hygiene

Consistent oral hygiene and regular checkups at our office in Nashville, TN, are essential for maintaining the integrity of the dental veneers and the health of your underlying teeth.

Ready for a Permanent Investment

Veneer dentistry is irreversible. If you are concerned about making permanent changes to your smile, you may consider an alternative treatment, such as dental bonding. You can discuss your options with our team in a consultation.

What can veneers address?

Aren't there less expensive treatment options?

Dental Veneers vs. Dental Bonding

While many cosmetic treatments exist, only veneers achieve truly comprehensive results.

Depending on the issues you want to address, our dentists at Gulch Dental Studio in Nashville, TN, can discuss potential alternatives to porcelain veneers. Dental bonding, for example, is used to treat many of the same conditions as veneers for a lower price.

However, while bonding is a good alternative for treating an imperfect tooth, the resin bonding material cannot provide the same level of strength and durability that porcelain can.

In addition, the results of veneer treatment typically look more natural than dental bonding.

Dental Veneers vs. Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is another more affordable alternative to veneers. Both in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits can be effective at treating stained teeth, but these bleaching options have their limitations.

Teeth whitening can only whiten stains that originate on the surface of the teeth. Deeper layers of discolored tooth structure cannot be whitened. Veneers, by contrast, can conceal deep-set stains that appear on the front surface of a tooth.

Additionally, teeth can still become stained after whitening treatment. Porcelain veneers are made of stain-resistant materials, which means longer-lasting cosmetic dentistry benefits.

So what can you expect while receiving veneers?

We Use Advanced Materials to Provide Stunning Results

At Gulch Dental Studio in Nashville, TN, our dentists offer veneers crafted from IPS e.max and IPS Empress. These two materials offer incredible strength and natural-looking results.

Both e.max and Empress mimic the qualities of natural tooth enamel to ensure your veneers blend with surrounding teeth. These materials are also exceptionally strong and can last many years with proper care.

What does treatment involve?

Porcelain Veneers Timeline

Dental veneers can enhance your smile in just two office visits.
Dental veneers can enhance your smile in just two office visits.

First, your dentist will prepare each tooth that will receive a porcelain veneer by removing a thin layer of enamel. This step makes space for the prosthetic.

Then, he will take impressions of your teeth to create a wax mock-up so you can see what your veneers will look like.

Once you decide on specifics like color and shape, we will send your impressions to a trusted lab. In the meantime, you will receive temporary veneers that still allow you to chew and speak normally.

Before placing your veneers, your dentist will show you what they will look like. Then, he will clean each prepared tooth with a cleansing solution designed to aid in the bonding process. The bonding agent is then applied to your teeth. and the dentist will secure your veneers in place.

What happens after veneers are placed?

Caring for Porcelain Veneers Is Simple: Maintain the Beauty of Your Enhanced Smile

Though our veneers and all materials we use at Gulch Dental Studio are of the highest quality and durability, they will still need to be replaced at some point.

However, with excellent oral hygiene, including regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings, your veneers can provide a more beautiful smile for 10 years or more. Before you leave your second appointment, we will give you full instructions on care and continued maintenance.

Both crowns and porcelain veneers were used to conceal deep staining and gaps between this patient's teeth to create a stunning, cohesive smile. This combination of durable wafer-thin shells and tooth-colored restorations look just like natural teeth, with results that will last longer than professional whitening treatments or the use of resin bonding materials.

Life After Porcelain Veneers Treatment

One of the greatest benefits of veneers is that you can begin to enjoy the results almost immediately. There is virtually no recovery or downtime needed, and your veneers will be ready to show off as soon as you leave our office

Veneers are made from stain-resistant, high-quality porcelain and can be cared for just like your natural teeth. However, there are a few steps you can take to keep them looking great for many years to come. To prevent fracturing your veneers, avoid:

  • Chewing on ice, pen caps, or fingernails
  • Opening mail or packages with your teeth
  • Grinding your teeth excessively

If you grind your teeth during the night, our doctors can recommend an oral appliance that helps you avoid excessive pressure on your veneers.

Why trust our practice with your results?

Are you worried about affording dental veneers?

Porcelain Veneer FAQ

Are dental veneers covered by insurance?

No. As a cosmetic dentistry procedure, dental veneers are considered an elective treatment rather than medically necessary. Thankfully, our financing options can keep veneer costs affordable by breaking the total price of the procedure into installments.

Will dental veneers ruin my teeth?

No. Just a small amount of tooth enamel is removed while prepping a tooth for a dental veneer. Typically, just a half millimeter of enamel is removed, and sometimes less. Losing a fraction of a millimeter of enamel will not have a significant impact on the structural integrity of a tooth or your oral health.

Can I smoke after getting dental veneers?

Technically you can smoke or use chewing tobacco after getting dental veneers, but it's a bad idea. The veneers will not become stained, but tobacco products will discolor your natural teeth and increase your risk of gum disease. We often tell patients that getting dental veneers is a convenient excuse to kick their smoking or chewing tobacco habit for good.

What should I do if a veneer gets chipped or comes loose?

If a dental veneer is fractured or somehow gets dislodged, it's important that you contact our Nashville practice as soon as possible. Bring the debonded veneer or broken fragment with you if possible. The team at Gulch Dental Studio can assess the issue and determine the most effective treatment for this dental veneer problem.
